I find Nascar to be a completely pointless and loathsome "sport." I truly cannot wrap my mind around the fact that there are drivers who do this competitively, going around and around; constantly turning only left. What's more perplexing is the fact that so many people watch Nascar races or attend the events. Here in Mooresville, NC, there is an entire museum dedicated to Nascar; where fans can get their pictures taken with life-sized cardboard cut-outs and might even be lucky enough to win a boxcar replica of their favorite car. This is supossed to be the Nascar capital of the world and the truth is, I've lived here all my life and deemed it useless long before it became the Nascar capital.
I think that some people attend the races specifically to get so drunk that their minds won't have to do anything too complex; after-all, watching fast cars go around in circles isn't the most mentally challenging sport. Or there are people like some of my relatives who watch or listen to the games to hear the crashes and laugh at the idiots in the cars. It takes racing to a whole new level of stupidity and I often wonder if placing a "TURN RIGHT" sign on the track would ruin the whole game.
Nascar to me seems like one of the lazier ways for people to play a brand of Russian roulette. They put their lives in danger, and maybe that's where the thrill is, because they want to go in lefty circles around a paved track to see if they can pass other cars. We have the Nascar Technical Institute as well, training people to want to be as dumb as their so idolized race-car drivers. It would probably be more appealing if the drivers weren't so arrogant the majority of the time and if it was more off road than anything.

User943 replied to BUD : You do realize that Earnhart is dead and gone, right? Meaning he'll never come back? Ever? And his son is just as much of a jackass as he was?! Just thought I should make that clear.

User863 said: i hate it when someone who knows absolutely nothing about a sport posts something like this saying that its a pointless sport, i would just like to see you even try to drive 100 mph in a group of 3 cars much less 180+ mph in a 43 car traffic jam, you say NASCAR is one of the laziest sports you try dodging debris, passing 30 cars in 20 laps, and avoiding wrecks in the blink of an eye, plus the temperatures inside the car reach well over 120 degrees, someone once took a digital thermometer and put it by the gas pedal and it read close to near 200 degrees. i dont see football, basketball, baseball, or any other sport besides motorsports that have players play in that type of environment, NASCAR is a real sport everything else is just a game.
navyvet88 replied to User863 : I totally agree with you!
Jenny J replied to User863 : I too agree. There are sports that I don't understand but I still respect and not say anything about that sport. But I agree with you and what you have said.
User944 replied to User863 : LOL You're a jackass.

woodwalker said: Nascar and racing in general IS a sport and requires more intelligence and athletic ability than most other sports. The requirements being that you "Play" for 3-4 hours without any timeouts while risking your life every second and using every muscle in your body while making split second decisions. That's just the driver. The crews on the other hand have it a little easier. They only have to work as a team to change 4 tires and add a tank of fuel in 13 - 14 seconds. The Crew chief only has to have a degree in engineering, meteorology, psychology, and physics. When you add it all up, these are the most intelligent and athletic people in sports! Don;t think so, try it!
Jenny J replied to woodwalker : I agree. These drivers don't have time to take a break in their 3-4+ hours. They are always moving. But yeah in racing, it's not just about driving around a track. You do use every muscle and you have to have brain power. NASCAR is much of a sport as any other sport out there.
