Canadians Club Seals

It's that time of year again. The annual baby seal skull-bashing party for Canadian poachers. There will be blood covered ice, brain matter in the oceans, and clubs available for everyone who wants to participate. Canadians think it will be a real blast! NOT. The annual seal slaughter of Canada is something hated by many but stopped by none. The Canadian government has admitted the slaughter of baby seals is inhumane and harsh but they've refused to lift poaching rights. These seals aren't a danger to anyone; but their skins are sold for high dollar prices on fur trade markets.

This time of year means the seals, some as young as only a few weeks, are trekking their way from Greenland down the Canadian coast. The weather is getting warmer and the climate conditions would be better for the seal babies, if they make it. More than 200,000 seals are massacred on their way down; all for the skin on their back. Most poachers will take a long hook and puncture the eye, mouth, or nose of the animals so they won't damage the coats; plus their blood is easily washed away as they drag the still conscious bodies over the ice. They're then either clubbed to death or skinned alive and left trembling on the ice, waiting to die a painful death; freezing without their skin.

Isn't that horrible? If you're not overcome with even a little emotion and feel some need to act, then you're a heartless human being. Seal fur is used for nothing but vanity; adorning the necks of the rich and famous. Canada leads in the fur trade industry but they also lead in the murder of truly defenseless creatures. No one has ever died because a seal pup got feisty and slapped the poacher around a little bit. Yet people can honestly go out onto the blood-covered snow and ice to look nature in the eyes and club it to death. There's no reason for this to happen, it just does, and no one is doing anything to stop it.

People plaster pictures of celebrities on "Save The Seals" logos and t-shirts but those celebrities could care less. They've never donated to a seals fund or attempted to talk with Canadian government officials in a bid to help these animals. That is a perfect example of gaining from a tragedy, and it's more disgusting than the slaughter. If you'd like to make a true difference, be the drop in the bucket that society needs. Care enough to make a small choice to say an adamant "No!" to the slaying of these beautiful creatures.
