In 2009 an employee, Sun Danyong at FOXCONN a Chinese manufacturing plant that produces the iPad for Apple committed suicide because he lost the iPhone prototype. Since Danyong's death 14 other workers have taken their own lives.
Now Chinese workers are being forced to sign a pledge stating they will
not commit suicide. Apparently the working conditions in this plant are extremely stressful, forcing employees to work 13 days straight for 12-hour shifts. The employees are not allowed to talk or sit during their long strenuous shifts.
So why the suicide pack? Here is the kicker... The suicide pack will prevent the families from seeking legal damages from Apple. Many in the United States are horrified that Apple allows such harsh working conditions for its employees.
