The horse carriage rides in New York City may seem like a nice idea but did you know that these horses are forced to work seven days a week regardless of it is sweltering hot, or freezing cold? All day long these majestic creatures are breathing in the hazardous exhaust fumes and walking miles on end in dangerous traffic.
Many of these horses suffer from extreme exhaustion as they are forced at night to sleep in stalls not built for horses that are filled with feces. They have to climb several stairs to get their multi level stables and are tied to their troughs and are unable to move around or lie down to get the rest they need.
Recently a New York tourist took one of these horse drawn carriage rides and was witness of a horrific incident and recorded the entire episode on her cell phone. The horse was so exhausted it collapsed twice yet the driver forced the horse to get back to work. The woman than confronted the driver and it is all caught on video. I warn you these videos are very upsetting and there is graphic language.
PETA is encouraging the New York City Council to replace the horse carriages with 100% electric, 1920s replica cars that are good for the environment and fun for tourists in hopes to end the abuse of horses in New York City.
